Our Philosophy
Baobab trees, nicknamed the ‘tree of life’, live for thousands of years towering over the African savannah. They support massive ecosystems and livelihoods and almost all parts of the tree are useful. We draw our eco-conscious sensibilities from this model of holistic utility. Our body care products are drawn from African super-plants like baobab, to deliver nutritious skincare and teas. In addition to that, our products and their packaging can be used, reused, composted or recycled.
The team
We’re a family-run, minority owned small business. We partner with friends and our local communities in Philadelphia, PA and Zimbabwe, to offer a unique gifting experience. We love applying our scientific backgrounds and African heritage to creating skin-nutritious formulations. We hope we’ve captured the essence of a great gift in our handmade products and curated boxes to create a unique and meaningful experience.
The experience
Our products use the best natural and organic ingredients to deliver a unique sensual experience. Gift sets create a statement in their reusable pine and poplar wooden boxes. Apart from our soaps and candles, which are scented with deliciously fragrant essential oils, our products come in lightly scented and unscented variations. Our signature rooibos bath salts are naturally scented by the flowers and leaves.
Packaging
Our aim to provide eco-conscious body care and gifting options. As such, most of our packaging is reusable, recyclable or, compostable. We ship in recycled boxes and may occasionally use plastic bubble wrap or protective packaging but these are 100% repurposed as some of our suppliers pack their items using this. We hope you will continue to repurpose this packaging as well. All paper is either recyclable, compostable, or both. Here is a packaging guide:
Wood Boxes | Gift boxes are packed in reusable poplar, plywood and pine boxes which make for excellent keepsakes. The boxes make excellent canvases for artistic expression and provide unique storage. We’re eager to see how you’ve upcyled these boxes, so please share by posting to our social media pages:
Soaps | All soaps are wrapped in protective glycine paper wrap which is compostable. Cord is sisal/cotton and can be reused. The front label is recyclable and the back label is compostable.
Body Butter Bars | Vegetable wax paper or glycine paper is use to wrap our lotion bars so these are compostable.
Body Oil | Our bamboo-cap glass bottles can be rinsed out and reused. The dropper top is make of silicone. Please note, the cap is lined with plastic to prevent leaching.
Bath salts | The glass jars which house our bath salts are made to be reused. They have a silicone liner to provide a tight fit and prevent leaking. Please do not store food in these as fragrances may leach into the wood.
Labels | All white and clear adhesive labels are compostable.
Round Wooden jars | These jars are perfect for upcycling and repurposing once empty.
Shipping Materials | We use compostable and 100% recyclable shipping envelopes and boxes. Packages are protected with water soluble starch peanuts or reused plastic bubble wrap or air pockets.
